Canadian Cole Powell has been making a name for himself throughout Canada and the United States for years.  Powell started his racing career by gaining special permission to race with the big boys and hasn’t stopped doing so since.

In 2006, Powell began racing against drivers many years his senior in the Truck Division at Grand Bend Speedway in Grand Bend, Ontario where he amassed many wins before moving on to the Full-Size Truck Division at Ontario’s Deleware Speedway in 2007.  That year, Powell continued to make a name for himself in the traveling Truck Division at Grand Bend Speedway, Delaware Speedway, Barrie Speedway, Sauble Speedway, Flamboro Speedway and Sunset Speedway where he won 11 out of 15 races.

In 2008, Powell made the trip south to Florida’s New Smyrna Speedway for the World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing during February Speedweeks.  Powell also took on the Crate Late Model division at Kawartha Speedway that year, posting a top-10 finish in every race, including the two 100-lap main events.  That year, Powell also won the Grand Bend Speedway 13-hp Truck Traveling Series Champion honors.

Powell went back to Late Model competition in 2009 were he snagged four wins, five top-five finishes and a top-10 finish in every start he made at Kawartha Speedway.  Those finishes earned him the Most Improved Driver Award at Kawartha, as well.  Powell also ran the APC 300 at Delaware Speedway in 2009 and brought home a top-16 finish.  On top of that, Powell posted seven wins in the 13-hp Truck Division at Grand Bend and competed in all seven nights of the World Series at New Smyrna Speedway despite being plagued by crashes and mechanical issues.

When 2010 rolled around, Powell finally got his first win at New Smyrna Speedway during the World Series racing outside of his class as he took the checkers in the final Limited Late Model race of the seven-race week, instead of his typical Crate Late Model division.

Throughout 2011 Powell took on a field of competition that included the CRA Super Series, JEGS CRA All—Star Tour, the Rattler 125 at South Alabama Speedway, and even running head to head with Kyle Busch at Delaware Speedway as well as several other high-profile events.  He started off the season with three wins during New Smyrna’s World Series and continued on competing in such tough series as the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour and the CRA Super Series and made his debut in the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour in September of 2011.

With a resume like this under his belt, there’s no telling which victory lane celebration will see Cole Powell next.  But one thing is for sure, it will be soon.
